Th Ace plant is one of the only recycling plants in the US that have walked the talk. We converted a former 70,000 square building that previously was used to process tobacco into our home by utilizing some of the most progressive and sustainable elements of the US Green Building’s Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards. Here is some of what we've done:
- Day lighting was added using translucent panels on the side walls and rooftop of plant
- Sensors are used to detect ambient light level in plant to automatically lower fixture output when there is sufficient daylight
- High efficiency lighting in plant and offices
- High efficiency, Zero CFC HVAC units supply the offices
- Motor control system in plant limits surges and trims peak consumption of electrical power
- Water is collected from 30% of 70,000 SF rooftop for use in dust control
- 2.5% of rooftop collected water diverted to a large rain garden, which was built in partnership with the Friends of Chesterfield's Riverfront. Click here to see a letter from their Director.
- Plantings in gardens uses native plants that do not need to be watered
- Water saving toilets installed in office and plant
- A green entrance was created containing permeable concrete, bike rack, native plantings, awning and sign from scrap, and our parking lot made from crushed stone we make
- EPA approved waste oil burner used in shop
- Used materials installed throughout (doors, carpet, reception desk, furniture, bathroompartitions, etc.)
